3. Building courses
In this section you will learn the following:
- Customize pre-existing courses
- Building your own course
- Assign content to a group
- Lock or unlock courses

3.1 Customize pre-existing courses
To customize a pre-existing course, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Courses’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the name of the course you wish to customize and click on it.
- Select the sub course you want to customize by clicking on it.
- To copy the course, click on the double file icon, next to the heart icon.
- A pop-up appears asking if you are sure you want to copy this course. Click on ‘Yes’ to copy the course. It might take a second for the system to copy the course. The bigger the course is, the longer the wait will be.
- In the left menu, you can see that you jumped from the folder of the course to the ‘Self-made’ folder. This is because the course has been copied from its own folder to the Self-made folder.
To rename the course, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Courses’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the ‘Self-made’ folder and select the course you wish to change names.
- To modify the title of the course, click on the pencil icon (in between the heart and double file icon). You can now rename the course, and, if desired, add a description and level (Entry, Basics, Advanced or Specialist).
- Click on ‘ok’ to proceed.
To delete content from your course, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Courses’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the ‘Self-made’ folder and select the course you wish to change names.
- To delete sub courses within your course, click on the checkbox in front of the name of the sub course you wish to delete. You can select multiple sub courses.
- Click on the ‘X’ that appears to delete the content.
- A pop-up appears asking if you are sure you want to delete the course(s). Click on ‘delete’ to remove the sub courses from your course.
- To delete modules within your course, click on the name of the sub course and repeat steps 3 to 5.
To change the order of the content, take the following step:
- Click on the ‘Courses’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the ‘Self-made’ folder and select the (sub) course you wish to rearrange its content and click on it.
- To change the order of the content, you can drag-and-drop the title of the content and place them in the desired order. Do this until you have the desired order of content.
To add existing modules to your course, take the following steps:
- To add existing modules to this course, click on the ‘Modules’ tab in the red bar at the top of your screen.
- In the left menu, navigate to ‘Default (by subject)’ or click on ‘Search’ to find the module you wish to add.
- To add the module to your course, drag-and-drop the name of the module onto the ‘Courses’ tab in the top menu bar. The module has now been added to the course, at the bottom of the list. You can do this with as many modules as you like.
Note: Make sure the name of your course is under ‘Courses’ in the tab. Otherwise the content will be added to the wrong Course.
3.2 Building your own course
To build your own course, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Courses’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the ‘Self–made’ folder and click on it. This should be the first folder under ‘Search’.
- Click on the ‘+’ under ‘Courses’ to create a new course.
- Fill in the title of the course, and, if desired, add a description and level (Entry, Basics, Advanced or Specialist).
- Click on ‘add’ to proceed.
To create a sub course, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Courses’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to ‘Self–made’ and click on it.
- Look for the course you want to create sub courses for and click on the name.
- Click on the ‘+’ under ‘Courses’.
- Fill in the title of the sub course, and, if desired, add a description and level (Entry, Basics, Advanced or Specialist).
To fill your self-made course with content, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Courses’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to ‘Self–made’ and click on it.
- Look for the (sub) course you want to add content to and click on the name. This name should appear under ‘Courses’ in the top menu bar.
- To add modules to this course, click on the ‘Modules’ tab in the red bar at the top of your screen.
- In the left menu, navigate to ‘Default (by subject)’ or click on ‘Search’ to find the module you wish to add.
- To add the module to your course, drag-and-drop the name of the module onto the ‘Courses’ tab in the top menu bar. The module has now been added to the course, at the bottom of the list. You can do this with as many modules as you like.
3.3 Assign content to a group
You can assign courses and modules to a group or individual student. Courses are the complete curriculums such as Electude Automotive Essentials, Electude Electric Drive, and Electude Heavy Vehicle Systems. Modules are all the individual topics within a course. These consist of lessons and quizzes. Lessons teach students new subjects, quizzes test their knowledge.
To assign a course to a group, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Courses’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the name of the course you wish to add to a group and click on it. This title should appear under ‘Courses’ in the top menu bar.
- Click on the ‘Students’ tab.
- In the left menu, navigate to the desired group or student you want to add this content to by clicking on ‘All groups or click on ‘Search’.
- Look for the name of the group and click on the group’s name.
- Click on the plus ‘+’ icon under ‘Courses’.
- The top item of the list that appears is the course you just selected. Click on ‘add’ to add the course to this group.
The order of the courses in the list assigned to a group or student can be altered by dragging a course up or down. Press the left mouse button, drag the course and release the mouse button above the new position.
You can quickly add many different courses to the same group or student. To add multiple courses to the same group or student, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Students’ tab in the Electude LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the desired group or student you want to add this content to by clicking on ‘All groups’, ‘All students’ or click on ‘Search’.
- Look for the name of the group or student and click on this name. The name should appear under ‘Students’ in the top menu bar.
- Click on the ‘Courses’ tab.
- Drag-and-drop the name of the course onto the ‘Students’ tab in the top menu bar. The course has now been added to the selected group or student. You can do this with as many courses as you like.
To assign a module to a group, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Modules’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the name of the module you wish to add to a group and click on it. This title should appear under ‘Modules’ in the top menu bar.
- Click on the ‘Students’ tab.
- In the left menu, navigate to the desired group or student you want to add this content to by clicking on ‘All groups’ or click on ‘Search’.
- Look for the name of the group and click on the group’s name.
- Click on the plus ‘+’ icon under ‘Modules’.
- The top item of the list that appears is the module you just selected. Click on ‘add’ to add the module to this group.
The order of the modules in the list assigned to a group or student can be altered by dragging a module up or down. Press the left mouse button, drag the module and release the mouse button above the new position.
In order to quickly add multiple modules to the same group or student, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Students’ tab in the Electude LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the desired group or student.
- To add this content, click on ‘All groups’, ‘All students’ or ‘Search’.
- Look for the name of the group or student and click on this name. The name should appear under ‘Students’ in the top menu bar.
- Click on the ‘Modules’ tab.
- Drag-and-drop the name of the module onto the ‘Students’ tab in the top menu bar. The module has now been added to the selected group or student. You can do this with as many modules as you like.
3.4 Lock or unlock courses
- Click on the ‘Students’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to ‘All groups or click on ‘Search’.
- Look for the group you want to lock content from and click on the name.
- Under ‘Courses’, select the course you want to lock from this group by clicking on it.
- Click on the symbol of the padlock to lock the content. You can choose between three options: unlocked, unlocked for a period, or locked.
- Click on ‘OK’ to lock the content.
Note: You can only lock courses in the Electude LMS. It is not possible to lock individual modules.
3.5 Manage favorite courses and modules
If you want to add a course multiple times to different students or groups, you can add this course to your favorites. To add a course to your favorites, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Courses’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the name of the course you wish to add to a group and click on it. This title should appear under ‘Courses’ in the top menu bar.
- Click on the heart icon with the plus ‘+’ symbol on it. This will add it to your favorites. When you add a course to a group or student, all your favorite courses will appear in alphabetical order.
If you want to add a module multiple times to different students or groups, you can add this module to your favorites. To add a module to your favorites, take the following steps:
- Click on the ‘Modules’ tab in the LMS.
- In the left menu, navigate to the name of the module you wish to add to a group or student and click on it. This title should appear under ‘Modules’ in the top menu bar.
- Click on the heart icon with the plus ‘+’ symbol on it. This will add it to your favorites. When you add a module to a group or student, all your favorite modules will appear in alphabetical order.
